“Steps” International Rights Film Festival the first film festival in CIS countries which covers such a wide range of rights topics: human rights, animal rights, environment protection. The festival also accepts philosophical and ideological films, films on social and political problems.
The first edition of STEPS festival took place 4-7 October, 2007 in Kiev Cinema House, 6, Saksaganskogo Street.
The second edition of the festival took place 27-30 November, 2008 in Cinema House, Kiev, 6, Saksaganskogo Str. and Cinema center "Kiev", 19, Krasnoarmeyskaya Str.
The third edition of STEPS festival took place 12-19 December, 2009 in Kharkov.
The main aim of the festival is to attract attention of the community to prejudices and cruelty in the modern world, where human rights violations come with animal kingdom oppression. Many barbarous manners and prejudices are often ignored and considered as normal. That’s why works of creative people will help the audience understand that every person is responsible for everything that is going on around them, will help to see our life from a another side.
The festival aims to disclose rights topic as widely as possible in order to show people the way to high ideals and values. By means of their films filmmakers can not only inform people but also build a compassionate society. STEPS festival shows its audience such things that are extremely important but unknown by many. Everybody must see this “inconvenient truth”!
We are sure that cinema has encouraging, educating power; it’s an inspiring means to influence people. Cinema has s a very strong and unique power which can show the rights issues in the best way and demonstrate solutions to the problems.
The name “STEPS” means that both a person and the humanity as one may ascend to the rectitude or descend to barbarity. The only question is which direction each of us will choose.
“Echo program” of the festival is a number of screenings of the best films demonstrated at the festival in different cities and countries. It usually takes place in Kharkiv, Yalta, Moscow, St. Petersburg.
III International Rights Film Festival "STEPS" is now over. You can submit your film to the next film festival after 20 Decebmer, 2009.
